Estonian travel technology company Turnit has won the Ticketing Technology of the Year award at the prestigious Transport Ticketing Global event. This international competition recognizes the most significant advancements in ticketing and mobility technology worldwide. The judges highlighted the impressive level of complex integrations in the solution and noted that it sets a precedent for modernizing public transport.

Turnit’s victory came thanks to its innovative multimodal ticketing solution, Turnit Hub, developed in collaboration with Sweden’s Samtrafiken, an organization that unites public and private transport operators. The Turnit Hub solution facilitates the sale of integrated public transport tickets worth over 2 billion SEK annually, used by more than 40 passenger transport companies.

“This is a major recognition for our entire team,” said Turnit CEO Ülo Säre. “The fact that an Estonian company’s innovation is being acknowledged at this level proves that world-class technology can be created even in a small country like Estonia. We owe a lot to Samtrafiken and Sweden’s public transport ecosystem, which provided us with the opportunity to develop Turnit Hub. Sweden is already several steps ahead of the rest of the world in public transport innovation—true pioneers in the field. This award shows that our vision aligns with the future of the entire industry.”

Since its launch in April 2024 various international authorities have showed significant interest in Samtrafiken’s approach with the National Distribution System and the use of Turnit Hub to deliver a modern real-time multi-modal sales platform.

This award reinforces the approach of using standards, including OSDM, to realise a vision that is acceptable to a diverse range of stakeholders at a national level. We invite anyone interested in fostering a more connected transport ecosystem to get in touch with us and discuss what is possible.
